The Careers Alert System makes use of the Internet and emails to help Careers Advisers handle more effectively the mass of correspondence they receive.
It allows Careers Advisers to use the "touch it once" principle. With one action they can:
- Record a brief summary of the message on their careers alert website
- Print off a copy to display on a noticeboard
- Print off a copy that can be added to the school daily announcements
- Email this message at the end of the day to students and parents on your mailing list
- Give email recipients the web address of the message sender so they can follow up directly, to them, from home
- Store all alerts in a searchable database which students can access at a later stage
Alerts are summaries of correspondence. Basically they are the messages you want students and parents to hear about.
To make life easy, all you need to do is have a quick read of the correspondence, make your summary, list details like dealines and website references, and add the alert. The system takes care of the rest.
You, your students and their parents can have the benefit of this system for 400 annually (with a one-off setup fee of 200).
This equates to a few days of extra casual staff assistance and will free up your time for more professional activities throughout the whole year.
CareersAlert was originally designed in 2001 for Bill McQueen, a Careers Adviser with over 20 years of experience in the field.
Since this very elementary version of CareesAlert, the system has spread to over 32 schools in NSW with 1653 students subscribed.
So what do the Careers Advisers think of CareersAlert?
"Since subscribing to the Careers Alert system in early 2003, there has been much positive feedback from students, staff and parents.
One parent has stated that 'this is the best thing the college has done this year', Students find it easy to deal with information that arrives in their in-box.
From an administrative point of view, it makes handling the huge amount of Careers information that lands on the Careers Co-ordinator's desk each week much easier to deal with... It's been well-worth the money already".

Quite often you hear of a "Money Back Guarentee" on products you purchase.
Internetrix takes this model one step further with a "Try before you buy" philosophy.
Upon filling out the signup form, you will have two weeks to put your own CareesAlert to the test. We are confident that once you have used CareersAlert, you won't be able to go back.
At the end of the trial period, we will ask you if you would like to purchase an annual license for the system to continue using CareersAlert.
To get your very own CareersAlert system, go to the bottom of the opening page and fill in the domain name you would like for your site.
The domain name is your website address. For example, Captial High School may take on 'www.captial.careersalert.com' or 'www.chs.careersalert.com'.
Simply fill out the name which best identifies your school in lower case as one word. The shorter this name is, the better, as people are more likely to remember it.
